PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
